Author Visit

Attention Civil War buffs: mark your calendars to join us at 7 p.m. next Wednesday, March 28th. George Contant, author of Path of Blood: The True Story of the 33rd New York Volunteers, will join us to discuss his book and his ten years of research about the 33rd Volunteers' "battles, camp life, and the home from where their families and friends waited ... sometimes forever ... for their return." The book will be available for purchase ($19.95, with $5 of each sale donated to our library), and George will be signing after his program.

Ask Us 24/7, an online virtual reference service run through Question Point and through the guidance of the Western New York Library Resources Council (WNYLRC), is now linked in the right-hand column of this site. Individual public librarians from all of the different chat organizations work in conjunction with paid Question Point librarians to provide 24 hour reference coverage 7 days a week.

To use this service, click on the link and enter your question in the box provided. A librarian will be with you shortly; approximate wait time is 1-2 minutes. Note: You will not necessarily be chatting with anyone local, or even from this part of the state.

Ask Us 24/7 is a a service of the New York 3Rs Library Councils and their member libraries and library systems.

10th Annual Valentine Sale

Yummm. It's almost time for our Friends' Yes - It's Chocolate! Valentine's Sale. Stop by the Library at 17 Maple Avenue between 10 and 6 on Monday, February 13th, and Tuesday, February 14th, for a great selection of "Devilish, Delightful, Delectable, Decadent & Downright Delicious" goodies. We'll even have some non-chocolate choices if that's what you prefer. Made possible by a Harold Hacker Fund grant to the Pioneer Library System, this service lets you give star ratings and write reviews on the books you read. Needlework Group Resumes

Come join us from 10 a.m. to 12 noon this Friday, January 6th as our needlework group resumes. We work on all types of needlecrafts - bring what you're working on or start a new project. We Love Our Friends!

We have a great group of Friends. Led by Shirley Patchett, Friends members and volunteers baked, priced, set up and sold all kinds of wonderful goodies (and jewelry and coffee table books) at their Holiday Bake Sale, bringing in $925.42 - almost double their previous best! Thank you to Shirley and all her helpers, too numerous to mention here, to Elinor Weldgen who arranged the jewelry display in spite of her recent surgery, and to Martin Dudley for donating two of his handcrafted nautical-themed wreaths. We're grateful for all the time you donate for the benefit of the library. Thank You!

Driveway Change

We will be permanently closing our entrance driveway at 5 p.m. this Sunday, December 11th. Please use the new entrance off of Smith Street, behind the Library Annex at 19 Maple Avenue, after that time. Traffic remains one way, and the current exit will continue to be used.

This winter we'll be plowing snow into the space between the buildings, and early next summer we hope to begin breaking ground there.

Thanks To All Sodus Voters

Thank you to all who voted today, both for and against. We're glad you all cared enough to make ;your voice heard. The final tally, including absentee ballots, was 75 no votes, 165 yes votes. Needless to say, we're excited to be able to take the next steps toward providing the Sodus community with the library service it both requires and deserves.

Because our Friends of the Library Holiday Bake Sale and the Expansion Project Referendum will both be held in the library that day, the Trustees will be meeting in the library's Annex at 19 Maple Avenue. Choose, Give, Matter


Along with many other local nonprofit organizations, our library will be participating in ROC The Day, an epic one-day giving event which will take place on December 8th. Sponsored by ESL Federal Credit Union and powered by United Way of Greater Rochester, ROC The Day will be the first event of its kind in New York State, and offers an opportunity to make an end-of-year gift to help advance worthwhile endeavors. We hope you will consider giving to this campaign.

Important Dates

For several months, representatives from the community, the Library's Board of Trustees, and staff have been working on plans to alleviate our currently overcrowded conditions and to provide handicapped accessibility to all areas of our facility. Many of you have stopped by to see the concept plans drawn up by LaBella Associates to deal with these problems. Important dates are:

December 1, 7 p.m. - Public Hearing in the Library's meeting room
December 8, noon to 9 p.m. - Referendum for permission to proceed and to authorize borrowing

Everyone is welcome to attend the Hearing and encouraged to vote on the 8th. If you have any questions concerning the project, please let me know.
