Christmas Closing

 The Sodus Community Library will be closed Friday, December 24- Sunday, December 26th for the Christmas holiday.  We will reopen on Monday, December 27th.  OWWL2Go, Hoopla, and our wifi will still be available.  

Board of Trustees Meeting

 The Board of Trustees will hold their regular monthly meeting on Thursday, December 16th at 4:00 in the Community Room.  The public may be in attendance.  Board Documents can be found by clicking the Board Information link as you scroll down on the right side of our web page.  

New Mask Mandate

 Due to the new NYS Mandate, we will now be requiring face masks in the library regardless of vaccination status.  Call the library at 483-9292 if you would like to use curbside service.

Thanksgiving Closing

 

The Sodus Community Library will close at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, November 24th and remain closed Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving.  We will reopen on Saturday at 10:00.  We hope that you and your loved ones enjoy a great holiday!

Closed for Veterans Day

 The Sodus Community Library will be closed on Thursday, November 11th in honor of Veterans Day.  

Building Closed on Friday for Pest Maintenance

 

I wanted to make you aware that recently we discovered signs of bed bugs on some adult fiction books that were returned to our library by a patron.  These items were sealed off and put into quarantine until we could have pest control look at the items.  We have had experts look at the items and confirm the presence of bed bugs on those materials.  Our staff are trained to look for signs of this on materials coming into the library so that we can keep any issues like this contained.   We have spoken with the patron that returned the items so they can take steps to fix the problem in their home.  These items have been disposed of. 

We have been checking all areas of the collection to make sure that there isn’t a larger issue.  We believe this to be an isolated situation that has been contained, but out of an abundance of caution, the pest experts will be treating our building on Friday.  We will have to close the building that day to allow them to complete the treatment.  The building will reopen on Saturday.  If you have concerns about anything currently checked out, please seal the item in a Ziploc bag and return them to us. 

In recent years, bedbugs have become a growing problem for all public buildings including hotels, schools, hospitals, movie theaters and libraries.  While we hope that we never have to deal with things like this, it does happen.   We will continue to use our preventative measures to keep these issues contained as best we can.  Thank you for your understanding and know that you can reach out to me if you have any questions.

The Library Board of Trustees will have their regular monthly  Board meeting on Thursday, Oct 14th   at 4:00PM in the Community  Room.  Board meetings are open to the public.

Columbus Day Closing

 The Sodus Community Library will be closed on Monday, October 11th for Columbus Day.  Wifi, OWWL2Go and Hoopla will still be available.

Job Opening – Library Groundskeeper

 

Responsibilities

 

Chief responsibilities of the Groundskeeper position are maintaining the outdoor spaces of the library and attending to general maintenance issues inside the building (list attached)

 

Applicants

 

·        Must be at least 18 years old

·        Must be able to push a lawnmower and snowblower

·        Must be able to climb a ladder to change ceiling lights and ballasts

·        Must be able to use stairs to reach basement locations

·        Should have experience with furnaces and air conditioners

·        Should have knowledge of general plumbing

·        Should be able to lift 50 pounds

 

Work Environment and Hours

 

·        Use of lawnmowers, snowblower, weed eater, power washer, trimmer

·        At least $13.50, more depending on experience

·        5-10 hours per week (must be available all year)

·        Flexible hours but must be able to remove snow before the library opens
