Yes, We're Open!

The snow is still falling, but we're (mostly) plowed and are open for business. If you're heading to the Library, please be careful as the side roads are still slippery; if you need something renewed or placed on hold, give us a call and we'll take care of it for you.

You see that there are several more novels and stories than we are lead to believe. Wouldn't it be great if somebody would donate the whole enchilada to the Sodus Community Library?!
Anybody?

Regards,
Antje Dirksen-Post

That's the beauty of OWWL, Antje ... All of the Sookie Stackhouse books are available within the System, so Sodus doesn't have to make shelf room for the whole enchilada! Many of them are available in audio, and it looks like that compilation should have all of the stories from all those various sources in one volume. I somehow missed that compilation, but I'll add it to my next order. Another beauty of OWWL: If you don't want to wait until our copy arrives, you can place a hold and be almost instantly gratified :)

You say you are open? on Monday Jan. 4 I went to the library at 7:55 Eastern Standard time and found the librarians leaving the library. Not only were they leaving the library 5 minutes early that told me they were closed and that I could not come in to pick up or drop of materials. If you want to remain the best in the country I suggest you start behaving yourselves in a professional manor.

I’m sorry that you were upset by your experience at our library. The blame is mine. We were closed Sunday because the roads in our area were almost impassable, and the Wayne County Sheriff’s office had recommended that there be no unnecessary travel. On Monday, as I’m sure you remember, the road conditions were still very slippery and hazardous. When I left the library at 6 p.m. Monday evening, I told Lisa, the clerk in charge of the desk that evening, to use her judgment about closing the library early - just to clarify, I meant between 7 and 7:30, not 7:55 p.m. We have done this in previous years when conditions made travel dangerous for our staff and for our patrons. When we close early due to weather, we post a sign on the door. The book drop is always available for drop offs if people are braving the roads, and OWWL accounts are accessible 24/7 for renewals.
We all take pride in being named both a HAPLR “Top Ten American Public Library” and a Library Journal 4-Star Library, and I am also proud of the service my staff and I provide to the public. Again, I’m sorry that you were not accommodated in the manner you expected. Given the conditions, and the lengthy drive both women had ahead of them that night, I feel that it was really quite reasonable to close five minutes early, and I hope that when you consider the safety aspect, you will agree.
