Book Drop Open & Lobby Pickup Service to Begin

The Library Book Drop is OPEN as of Friday, June 12th.   The Drop is located outside at the back corner of the building.  If the drop seems full, please wait until another day to return items.  Anything that had a due date of March 15th or later has been extended to September 30th so there is no need to try to get everything back by June 30th.  If you happen to have a lot of items from a neighboring library it would be helpful to take those items directly to that library, but make sure their drop is open first.  We will accept items from other libraries in our system but they will be delayed returning to their home library since delivery service will be very limited.

Items going into the book drop will immediately be placed in quarantine for 72 hours before being checked in.  If it looks like an item is still on your account, that is likely the reason why it's still showing up.  A grace period will also be in effect for returned items so your returned materials will not accumulate fines while sitting in quarantine.

Staff are returning next week and will be busy getting the building in order for reopening.  We would like to begin Lobby Pickups by appointment starting Monday, June 22nd.  All requests for items will need to come by phone (315-483-9292) or e-mail: soduslibrary@owwl.org until our holds feature is turned on by the library system.  Only Sodus items will be available for the time being.  The best way to see what we have is to browse the online catalog at www.owwl.org and change the location to Sodus.  Staff will call you to set up a pickup time when your items are ready.

We will be adding back services as the weeks progress and we'll keep you updated on the changes.  We are looking forward to seeing all of you very soon!

Library Budget Update

This year the Library Board of Trustees approved the 2020-2021 Library Budget which keeps the current tax levy figures the same for the 2020-2021 fiscal year.  Since there is no change in the tax levy, there will be no budget vote this year.  There are no Library Trustee vacancies this year, so there will not be a Trustee Election.  You can click the link below to see next year's budget figures.  Please reach out if you have any questions.

Library Update

Hi Everyone-
I wanted to give you a quick update on the library reopening since many of you have been wondering when that will be.  Libraries are not on the Governor's list of essential businesses during a pandemic, so our library staff is unable to work in the building to provide services.  As soon as the Governor allows libraries to reopen according to his plan, we will work with the entire library system to coordinate a reopening date.  Due dates have automatically been extended through June 30th so you won't need to worry about renewing any physical items that you currently have checked out.  We ask that you hold any items that you currently have checked out and hold any book donations at this time.

Our library staff is still available remotely and would be happy to assist you with electronic services such as owwl2go, Libby and Hoopla.  You can send us a message on our facebook page, leave a message on our answering machine, or e-mail me directly with questions.  There are also several resources on our website that are available for use from your home: www.soduslibrary.org

Remember that our wifi is available outside the building any can be accessed at any time without a password.  Thanks for your continued patience and know that the entire staff is looking forward to seeing all of you soon!

Additional Information for Closing

Hi Everyone!
Here are some additional details for you for our closing beginning Wednesday, March 18:
·        Due dates are being adjusted in our computer system so there won’t be any fines during our closing.
·        If you are finished with items, you can return to them to the book drop at any time.  Returning items as you finish will help keep our staff from being overwhelmed with items when we reopen.  Our staff will be checking the drop daily and sanitizing items as they come in.
·        Please do not leave book donations at this time
·        Our wifi is still up and running 24/7 and can be accessed outside if you want to pull up in your vehicle
·        Staff will NOT be able to get items for you during our closing
·        You can still check items out through our online options: Download the Libby app for books, audiobooks and magazines OR you can use Hoopla for instant downloads of movies, music, books and audiobooks (We’ve increased the limits for Hoopla to 10 for the time being)
·        Our staff will be available Monday- Friday from 10:00-12:00 to answer phone calls if you need assistance with card/pin issues or navigating Libby and Hoopla.  Please leave a message if no one is available.  You can also e-mail soduslibrarydirector@owwl.org
·        We do not have a date for reopening yet, but we will provide updates as soon as we know.  Thank you for your continued understanding and patience during this rapidly changing time.

Holds Suspended

A notice from PLS:

Starting Saturday, March 14, 2020, the Pioneer Library System (PLS) will suspend the option of placing holds in OWWL. This means neither library staff nor patrons will be able to order library materials from another member library. Additionally, PLS will suspend delivery services which will result in no movement of library materials between member libraries until further notice. PLS will reevaluate this stoppage of service on Friday, April 3, 2020, with guidance from local and state government agencies.

This plan of action was made with the health and safety of our system staff, member libraries staff, and library communities as a top priority. We thank everyone for their patience and understanding as we respond to rapidly growing COVID-19 concerns.

Also: The Sodus Community Library will remain open unless we are advised otherwise from the Health Department.  Since this could change at any time, we recommend picking up holds in a timely fashion.
